In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track during the course of the space of six months. The track is a mixture of reggaeton and pop music has not just brought attention for reggaeton, it was also an attraction towards Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish predominantly, as well as another four in the year 2016. In the midst of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma on Medellin, Madonna and Maluma worked together on Medellin, 2019 In 2020, a few Reggaeton musicians were expressing their displeasure with how the genre was moving towards the mainstream. But, the younger generation, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the evolution. He often included elements from different genres as well as electronic dance.
